Abhishek Surana IAS Biography

Abhishek Surana is a native of Bhilwara a small place in Rajasthan and has secured AIR 10 in the UPSC CSE examination, in 2017. This was his third attempt at the examination. He belongs to a middle-class family, and he made his family proud by becoming a national topper.

Abhishek comes from a well-educated family and his family always believes in and told him the importance of education in life. His father, Anil Surana is a lecturer at the Government College in Bhilwara. He always supported the Officer’s decision for the preparation of the CSE exam.

In an interview, his father said that it was the evening when he went out to buy vegetables and that’s the time when he got a call from Abhishek, who told him that he got the 10th rank, over all the nation.

Attempts at the UPSC

He made his first attempt in 2015, but unfortunately, he could not able to clear the Mains exam and did not make it to the interview. After that, he did not give up and again gave an attempt in 2016, this time he got the 250th rank & recruited into Indian Police Services (IPS). He also applied for the Indian Forest Service (IFS) exam in 2016 and got the 2nd rank in the exam. But as his dream was to become an IAS Officer, how can he give up on his dream? that is why he decided that he will try again until he achieves his dream. That’s why he again gave the exam in 2017 and he made his dream come true with flying colours and his focus & hard work.

In an interview, he says that when he was abroad, he longed for his country. He calls the situation in India ‘organized chaos’ but it is still his country. No matter how it is, it is his nation, and he is a native there. He always wanted to do something for the betterment of the nation.

Abhishek Surana IAS Education Background

After finishing his schooling. Abhishek started preparing for the IIT entrance exam and he cleared it on his first attempt. After that, he did his engineering from IIT. Completing his engineering, Surana was immediately recruited to the Barclays Investment Bank in Singapore. There he worked for approx. for 2 years. He says that after the IIT, he was recruited by Barclays Investment Bank in Singapore. He worked for the bank in London, then his two friends and he founded a company and started working in Chile. This was during these two years that he was abroad, and he realized that he wanted to be in India and do something for society.

Abhishek chooses Physics as his optional subject for the UPSC CSE examination. As he was an IIT student he opts for the Physics subject.

Abhishek Surana IAS Strategy

Surana’s strategy involved early to bed and early to rise in the morning. He said that he mostly woke up at 5:30 a.m. on morning and headed to the gym by 6:00 a.m. After an hour of working out, he returns to his room in Rajinder Nagar, a place where many civil service aspirants live and prepare for the exam. Then after a quick breakfast, he always heads to the library in Rajinder Nagar, which is considered a Mecca for all aspirants. And then the next twelve hours were spent there learning and preparing for the exam, with a few breaks for tea and lunch in between.
