Her father named, Mr Rajendra Singhal, is an engineer by profession whereas her mother named, Anita Singhal, has a profession as an Advisor in the field of insurance. This was her fourth attempt.

IAS Officer, Ira Singhal was born in an educated family in Meerut, on 31st August 1983. Ira Singhal Age is 39 years old as per the year 2022. Her father named, Mr Rajendra Singhal, is an engineer by profession whereas her mother named, Anita Singhal, has a profession as an Advisor in the field of insurance. Through all the problems & bad times in Ira’s life, her family has always stood to help her overcome the challenges and rejections. She even lost her brother in the year 1994. Supportive parents are the reason behind her success.

She finished her schooling at Sophia Girls School, Meerut and then she went to Loreto Convent School in Delhi.

It wasn’t easy for her in the earlier days of school, she faces a phase of her life where she was facing a lot of discrimination due to her scoliosis (spine curvature disorder). However, later on, she completed her primary schooling at the Army Public School situated in Dhaula Kuan.

Ira Singhal IAS finished her graduation from Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi which is affiliated with the University of Delhi. She took her degree in Bachelor of Technology. After that, she finished her MBA (in Marketing and Finance) from FMS Delhi. Before appearing for The UPSC examinations, she obtains quite a working experience at Coco-cola company as the marketing intern and then as the Strategic Manager in Cadbury India.

Ira Singhal IAS has Scoliosis, which is known as a Spine Curvature Disorder. This disorder completely has hampered her arm movements and the ability to pull & hold, as it is affected the normal functioning of her spine and had significant impacts on other body parts as well.

Not only this disorder restricted Ira with limited movements but also leaves her with limited vision. She wasn’t as privileged with the whole resources, but she has a rigid will & zeal to achieve the unachievable. Even after facing discrimination from society and being underprivileged because of her disorder, she never takes her problems as the major difficulty in the journey. Instead, the Officer made her challenges an opportunity to prove that the differently abled also can make a difference in society.

Biased Outcomes

In her childhood, Ira was advised by her principal to join schools & institutes for the especially abled because the first thing people looked at her was her disabilities. Later in the year 2010, even though she clears her UPSC exams with rank one, she wasn’t selected for giving interviews immediately to secure a position.

This was as per the rules and the Person’s & Disabilities Act, where Singhal was not eligible of becoming an IAS officer because of her physical & medical aspects.

Filing of Case

IAS Officer Ira never tolerates any injustice; therefore, she filed a lawsuit after being rejected by the IAS interviewees for her disability. This step brought a massive difference as the Article 14 and Article 16 was removed from the PWD (Persons with Disabilities Act). This winning of the case and a new change not only trembled the Central Administrative Tribunal but also gave a chance to all the UPSC aspirants who are underprivileged & differently abled.
