IAS topper Gopalakrishnan Ronanki was born and bought up in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, in the year 1987, and secured AIR 3 in 2016 in the UPSC examination. This was his fourth attempt at the CSE exam. His optional subject was Telugu Literature.
After completing his schooling at Government Junior College, he did his graduation from Andhra College, with B.Sc. He belongs to a very poor family. Thus, after becoming a topper in he made his parents proud.
Before appearing in the CSE exam, he was employed as a second-grade teacher at the Regulapadu MPP School, in Palasa Mandal.

Gopal hails from a very poor family. In his school days, he doesnāt even have electricity. To follow his dream and passion, he has to do a lot of struggle & hard work to clear the exam. He did not have enough money to join any coaching institute for the preparation of the examination.
His father, Ronanki Appa Rao, is a farmer in Parasamba Village in Palasa Block. Ronanki’s father was not educated but he never stops him from learning. Gopalakrishna Ronanki’s mother, Rukminamma is also an agricultural labourer. She had to do a lot of labour to earn some amount of money for her family. Ronanki’s parents educate both children. His brother’s name, R K Konda Rao is a banker and helps the family by earning some money.
IAS is their childhood dream of Gopal, but he never shares his dream with his family and parents. He started his preparation without telling anyone about this. Ronanki belongs to a poor family, and they cannot even afford to send him to any private school. So, he started preparing for the UPSC on his own.
