Ishita Rathi, 26, who took the civil services exam in 2021 and finished eighth, claims she studied for the examination using internet resources. She is the daughter of an assistant sub-inspector and head constable in the Delhi Police. Both ASI Meenakshi Rathi and her father, Head Constable Iqbal Rathi, are assigned to the South-East District and the Traffic Unit, respectively. The family resides in Chhatarpur Village in Delhi. Ishita, a Lady Shri Ram College and Madras School of Economics alumna, cleared the UPSC mains test with economics as her elective subject.

Her family currently resides in Delhi but is originally from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. She attended DAV Public School in Basant Kunj, Delhi, for her education. Ishita stated she did not enroll in any additional tutoring for this exam. I started off by using the toppers’ preparation methods. whereby I used YouTube as my primary source in addition to web content, she said.
She utilized newspapers and periodicals for current affairs in the UPSC test and major best-selling books that cover history and Laxmikanth politics as sources of assistance. Ishita also claimed to study first thing in the morning. She said she used to study for a few hours a day and take breaks in between, which meant she did not study with an eye toward the clock but instead set a goal for herself. My parents gave me their complete support during my UPSC preparation, and I had set out to become an IAS officer in order to fight toward the empowerment of women and children. When Ishita finished her postgraduate studies in 2019, she made her first try. In 2020 again she did her second try in which she qualified in mains test and reached interview round. And in the third try 2021, she obtained 8th place in the UPSC test.

Economics was an optional subject, which not many students would choose to study. I mostly conducted self-study with my options, she continued. I took notes on my own. I recently completed an analysis of questions from the previous year and reviewed some Vibhas Jha’s Next IAS brief notes.

When asked whether she had any advice for aspiring UPSC candidates, she responded, “I will just state that the UPSC test is really difficult and lengthy; thus, please do not have any doubts about this fact. You prepare for this one year, and then you show up the following year. So, patience is definitely required. Along with patience, you must be disciplined in sticking to a sound plan of action.
