In 2016, Ravi began studying for the UPSC using Hindi as his main language. To pass the UPSC test, he needed four tries. He made his first try in 2018, finishing in 337th place and earning an Indian Defense Accounts Service (IDAS) cadre. In 2019, he attempted again, this time earning the 317th position and being accepted into the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) class. He made a third try in 2020, but he was unsuccessful in passing the primary exam. On his fourth attempt, he passed the UPSC examination in the year 2021 with the 18th rank.

Ravi comes from a poor farming household in Sri Ganganagar, Tindiam, in the state of Rajasthan. This is a tiny, obscure, and rural village. His mother is a housewife and his father was a farmer; together, they have three children. His father is Ram Kumar Sihag, and his mother is Vimala Devi. Komal Sihag, Raveena Sihag, and Poonam Sihag are his three sisters.

Before beginning to take the UPSC preparation in 2016, Ravi was able to raise the funds to marry his older sister, Poonam Sihag.

IAS Ravi Kumar Preparation Strategy

Following is Ravi’s training strategy:

Ravi Kumar got up at 5:30 in the morning, worked out for 15 minutes, and ate food around six in the morning. He then left for Libary at around 7 am. He used to read from seven until ten in the morning at 25 min intervals. Following this break, he used to begin his study at around 10:30 am and continues until 1:00 pm before taking a meal break. He resumed his study at 3 p.m. and worked until 5 p.m. before taking a 20 to 25 min break. He resumes his study at around 6:00 p.m. and finished them at 8:00 p.m. For his UPSC training, Ravi stopped using Facebook and Instagram. He decided to delete his social media profiles altogether.
