Shreyans Kumat is from Ajmer, Rajasthan. He secured AIR 4 in the UPSC CSE exam, in 2018, with only one attempt. Just after finishing his graduation, he got a high-paying job in the private sector.

While travelling and exploring, he met various government officials, and these interactions sparked his interest in public services. It is also said that his grandfather was a former IAS officer, always wished for him to pursue his goals. Though he didn’t push him to fulfil his dreams, he remained focused and persistent.

Shreyans Kumat’s date of birth is 15th of January, in 1994. After joining a coaching institute, Shreyans began to prepare his notes from online sources and NCERT books.

He also researched thoroughly the past question papers and the UPSC question pattern. Also, he studied the NCERT books and prepared notes for revision. He has also done group discussions and solved map-based questions too, to help his answers to questions correctly.

Shreyans Kumat’s father’s name is Arjun Kumat and his mother’s name is Anjali Kumat. He is 28 years old. Shreyans Kumat IAS wife is Priyanka Yadav. They got married on 1st January 2022. This was not an arranged marriage, but a love marriage. Kumat’s wife is from Bihar, and she is his classmate since childhood. When he cracks the UPSC and become an IAS, they decided to get married.

Shreyans Kumat currently posted to the Sounsar district, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, as Sub-Division Officer (SDO) in revenue services. His basic pay was 56,100 rupees, DA- 34% so he gets 19,074 Rupes, HRA- (class X 27%) 15,147 Rupes, TA- 7,200, DA on TA- 2,448 Rupes, so all together he gets Rs- 99,969 as his Gross Salary.

Shreyans finished most of his schooling in Kishangarh and completed Class 10 at Ajmer’s Mayoor School and scored 94.2%; in class 12 he scored 92.2%. After that, he completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B), where he scored 8.41c.

Before appearing for the Civil Services Exam, he had worked with Ernst & Young (EY) as a Management Consultant for about two years, in the Rajasthan city, of Ajmer. During his second year at the Company, Shreyans started thinking about getting prepared and applying for the UPSC exams. Also, he had attended various courses like Good Governance Yatar (GGY), Vippasanna, etc.

Shreyans Kumat IAS Preparation Strategy

According to Shreyans Kumat, one should start his/her preparation by analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. Because Kumat was not good at memorizing theory, therefore, it he need more time to revise. Thus, he planned his studies accordingly. Shreyans started his preparation in June 2017. At first, he finished his reading for the optional subject and then General studies from standard books till December 2017.

After that, he revised the notes given by the coaching institute from February 2018 to March 2018. Then, Shreyans started giving mock tests for prelims, before one week of the actual exam. Giving mock tests regularly helps in your improvement as you give each mock is very important.

For the Mains exam, Kumat practised the past five-year paper of the UPSC. And referring to those answers key, which are provided by the UPSC, so that one can get an idea of how to present an answer and what examiners are looking for. He claims that every aspirant should give tests during the timing of the actual exam, just to maximize their concentration and efficiency during the time of the exam.
