Ashok Khemka Biography

Ashok Khemka Education

Ashok was born into a household of the lower middle class. He excels in school and has a successful scholastic career. He attended St. Xavier’s Collegiate School in Kolkata for his elementary schooling. He earned a B.Tech in computer science engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 1988. He then went on to earn an MBA in business administration and finance and a PhD in computer science from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai. He also possesses an IGNOU MA in Economics. He then took the IAS examinations in 1991 and was chosen for the Haryana cadre.

Law is one of Ashok’s favourite subjects. With a score of 166.37, he won the Punjab University (PU) law admission exam in 2016. He plans to pursue legal studies after retiring.

Ashok Khemka Family

Ashok’s Career

In the Haryana Cadre, Ashok was an IAS from the 1991 class. He underwent a two-year training program before receiving his initial assignment as a Sub Divisional Magistrate. (SDM). He used to require it in writing whenever a senior or politician made an unusual or unofficial request. His repeated moves were primarily due to the fact that they led to him being reported to his superiors and the Chief Minister on multiple occasions. The longest assignment he ever had lasted only 11 days, and he had never been stationed anywhere for more than 18 months. He shouted against erroneous contracts, dubious business transactions, and strange requests, but they were largely disregarded.

Land Deal Corruption

Ashok made headlines in 2012 after cancelling a land transaction between Sonia Gandhi’s in-law’s company, Rober Vadra’s business, and DLF and claiming there were numerous financial irregularities in the deal. According to the reports, corruption ranges from 20,000 crores to 350,000 crores. Ashok revealed the irregularities at the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation Limited in just five months as its managing director. On April 4, 2013, he was transferred. He claimed that he had received death threats after raising concerns about Robert Vadra’s illegitimate land acquisition.

Chargesheets filed against Ashok

On April 26, 2013, Ashok was also assigned the responsibility of DG Archives and Archaeology. He is the subject of two chargesheets, one of which accuses him of failing to carry out his duties at the Haryana Seed Development Corporation, where he had discovered corruption and sought a CBI investigation. The Haryana administration was charged with abusing its power to punish Ashok.

Transfers under the Khattar regime

In November 2014, Ashok was appointed the transport commissioner. However, the truck proprietors went on strike after he started a campaign against overloading and oversized goods vehicles. His efforts to dismantle long-standing monopolies that controlled private bus operations in the state by allowing Haryana’s unemployed youth to work for themselves also led to a walkout by the state transport undertaking (STU) unions. In April 2015, he was moved to the antiquities and museums division.

Ashok Khemka IAS current posting

On 9 January 2023, Ashok was transferred for the 56th time. He became the Additional Chief Secretary of the Archives Department.
