Nandini K R IAS Biography

Nandini KR was born and bought up in Kolar Gold Field in Karnataka and secured All India Rank first in the UPSC examination, in 2016 at her fourth attempt. She is a great inspiration for future aspirants. The officer’s father, Mr Ramesh, is a teacher in the government school and she also has a brother named Thorun Patel who was a PG at the Research Institute of the Indian Institute of Agriculture, in New Delhi.

She completed her schooling at St. Joseph Convent Girls High School. Since childhood, she had decided to become an IAS officer. Nandini finished her graduation in civil engineering from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology in Bangalore.

Nandini belongs to the OBC category. In her attempt in 2014, she got an 849 rank in the exam and got a position in the IRS (Customs and Central Excise). She has undergone probation at the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics in Faridabad. Her Optional Subject was Kannada Literature. She loves to spend her free time reading literature and playing volleyball.

Nandini K R is a native of Kembodi village in Kolar district, in Karnataka. Her father Ramesh K V works as the Assistant Schoolmaster in the Government High School at Mudiwadi in Kolar. Nandini’s mother, Vimala K V, was a teacher but gave up her career to aid her childrenā€™s education. The officer also has a brother who had pursued post-graduation at the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. K R Nandini belongs to the OBC category, and she loves to read literature and play volleyball in her spare time.

Nandini completed her graduation in Civil Engineering from the MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology in Bengaluru where she got a gold medal and scored a 9.82 pointer. She completed high school at Chinmaya Singh School, Koral, Karnataka, in 2006 and scored 96.80% in the 10th class. In Alva’s P.U.College, Moodbidri, Karnataka, she completed her senior secondary education and scored 94.83% in class 12th with science stream in the year 2008.

She had worked in the state public works department as an Assistant Engineer for about 3 years. The IAS Results 2016 were announced and Nandini was declared as the UPSC topper, at that time she was pursuing her IRS training at the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad.

Nandini K R Preparation Strategy

One should not have an inferiority complex; means you should feel positive and confident but never be overconfident. Revise the notes regularly and make your resources limited so that you could be able to cover the whole syllabus in time and get the time to revise it.

Nandini believes that one’s language is not a barrier to anything, instead what is important is that he/she should have clarity in understanding the issues. She made her timetable daily which includes 8 hours of sleep and 1 hour of sports.

According to her, one should choose books and sources according to their level of comprehension. She also advises aspirants to practice mock tests for prelims and mains both and make sure they improve the speed of their writing. Also, she learned how to manage her time more effectively during the test series.

She claims that gender is not a barrier to success, and one has to overcome fear and self-doubt to achieve their goals.
