During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was assigned the special nodal officer for Vijayapura, Bagalkot, and Belagavi districts, while holding the position of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Railways.

Bhaskar led a record-breaking 82 rallies in a month during the Anti-CAA demonstrations in Bengaluru. He launched the AVATHAR passenger reservation system in 2013 while working as the KSRTC director (security & intelligence). In the nation, this was a first of its kind.

Bhaskar handled two positions and responsibilities at once while acting as the inspector general of the Police-Internal Security Division and Inspector General of the Police-Training Division. When he was the IGP-Internal Security, the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) was established.

He submitted a request for early retirement in September 2021. Bhaskar Rao IPS retirement was on 1 April 2022.

Bhaskar expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the current state administration of Karnataka treated him. Thus, he expressed interest in joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is expected to run candidates in both the Assembly elections and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections, as result. He ran for office in Karnataka as a candidate from a district in the metropolis of Bengaluru South. He was running for office on behalf of the AAP at the moment.

After 11 months of political exposure in the AAP, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
