Early Political Career

Varun was exposed to politics by his mother, Maneka Gandhi, during the 1999 election campaign. Varun and his mother, Maneka Gandhi, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004.

Varun ran for the Pilibhit seat in the 2009 General Elections. He won by defeating V.M. Singh and became a Member of Parliament. It was by far the Gandhi family’s most important victory.
