Pooja was detained in May 2022 on suspicion of money laundering related to the accused embezzlement of MGNREGA funds. In connection with the case, the federal agents carried out raids at various locations across four states in Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and Punjab and were able to recover 174,900,000 from a chartered accountant connected to Singhal and her spouse. Around seven in the morning, the ED conducted a check of Pooja’s home at Booti Mo of the Hanuman temple and found Rs 19.31 crore.

In the MGNREGA scam and money laundering case, suspended IAS officer Pooja submitted the discharge petition. She had been granted time to file the petition by a previous court. The detained officer who was suspended in this instance is currently out on bail. In a connected development, Suman Kumar has been charged by the court with violating Sections 3 and 4 of the PMLA Act. He is Singhal’s husband’s certified accountant.
